Needs and trends in educational counselling and career guidance for high school graduates
Abstract
Educational counselling and career guidance aims to empower individuals at different stages of their lives to make well-fitting educational and career decisions. While the educational and vocational landscape is becoming increasingly diverse and complex, the demands on those with a counselling function are therefore also increasing. Although the PES Austria offers a wide range of counselling services for high school graduates, they still find it difficult to make career and further education decisions, according to relevant studies.
Against this backdrop, counselling institutions that mainly provide counselling to high school graduates will be asked about their specific counselling needs in the near future and how these needs have changed in the last ten years. While doing so, one main interest will be the decision-making process and counselling regarding studies at universities.
The study design of abif comprises a literature and study analysis, a qualitative survey of ten experienced educational counsellors and career guidance counsellors as well as the implementation of three focus groups with high school graduates and prospective students.
